Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Tuesday announced that he “cannot but express” his “personal sympathy” with ex-PM Saad Hariri, after the latter announced his withdrawal from political life.
“Despite several disagreements that marred the relation between us and ex-PM Saad Hariri, especially in the political approaches related to governance, I cannot in these very moments but to express my personal sympathy with Sheikh Saad,” Geagea said in a televised address.
He added: “As we respect and appreciate the friends and brothers in al-Mustaqbal Movement, we insist on coordinating with them and with all the sons of the Sunni community in Lebanon and all the loyals from other sects who believe in the Lebanese cause.”
Geagea noted that such coordination is necessary so that Lebanese statehood, sovereignty and freedom can triumph.
He also called for working for a Lebanon that is “not subordinate to Iran’s will and that is free of corruption” so that “the martyrs of freedom and sovereignty in Lebanon, from Kamal Jumblat to Bashir Gemayel, Rafik Hariri and Mohammed Shatah do not die twice.”
