Report: Extremists to Attack North in Attempt to Grab Land

Extremist groups are set to launch a wide attack on north Lebanon, according to French intelligence reports that were conveyed to Lebanese authorities.

As Safir newspaper reported on Monday that the concerned authorities received a French tip off that extremists will launch their attack from the northern district of Akkar.

Roux Says STL Mandate Renewal is Certain

The head of the international tribunal's defense office, Francois Roux, has said the renewal of the court's mandate was necessary to continue the trial in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri's Feb. 2005 assassination case.

Kelley Says U.N. has No Count of Refugee Numbers in Arsal

The UNHCR's representative in Lebanon, Ninette Kelley, has said it was difficult to know the number of Syrians who have taken refuge in the northeastern border town of Arsal.

“We know that we have registered 45,000 refugees there. And we believe that the town continues to embrace refugees whose numbers cannot be determined,” Kelley told An Nahar newspaper in remarks published in An Nahar daily on Monday.

Hizbullah was surprised on Sunday that March 14 "has not yet abandoned its alliance" with the Syrian armed opposition, declaring that anyone who incited against the army is a partner in the crimes by "Takfiri gangs" against it.

"The Lebanese army is being exposed to open aggression by Takfiri gangs, which are not just passing separate attacks, its an external decision to continuously attack the army," said the Deputy head of Hizbullah's Executive Council Sheikh Nabil Qaouq, in a memorial service celebration in the town of Dwair.

Rifi Says He Supports Barter for Freedom of Soldiers

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi announced his support to the barter in the issue of the kidnapped soldiers, rejecting on the other hand to “push” the army into the Syrian war through coordination with the Syrian army.
